THE NATIONS CALLED:
Theology of the Nations and Their Redemption
* a trilogy of books by Pieter Bos *
From the introduction:
"This book is written for God-seekers and thinkers, for intercessors and
socially involved theologians, for missionaries who take the cross-cultural
aspect of their task seriously and for discerning readers of the news, for
visionaries who have faith for societal change through the power of God, and
for those who are prepared to think corporately and historically and to
"The Nations Called" is a paradigm shifting book,
fit to be discussed in
bible- and studygroup, in church council and mission board, and in political
circles at minucipal and national level. It is not an
historical-international overview for interest sake; it analyses the
spiritual dynamics reaching from the ark of Noah to the headlines of your
daily newspaper, and rocking the foundations of the church you attend next
From a review, the following quote:
"The City Redeemed is a trilogy exploring God's destiny for the nations and
cities of the earth. This ground-breaking work provides a much-needed
theological basis for the practical advances already being made by those
involved in international intercession, reconciliation, city-reaching and
the transformation of society.
It presents God's glorious covenant with all nation, also
with nations in
our time. Of sixteen nations a brief scetch is given from this perspectieve.
This make clear why the nations and cities are the main stake in the
spiritual battle. In that battle the focus is not in fighting but on
dis-arming of the enemy; it is not fighting against an enemy but fighting
for the nations. And even more important: it is a battle by the Church: is
the Church aware of this commission, and of her authority to this task, and
of the circumstances in which she must prevail, even in the end-time?"
"What others say"
Also: page 15-17 of the book gives a good summery of it.
About the "paradigm shifting" (John Dawson) quality
of the book:
"1 The "axis" of this book is par 2.4 > par 5.1. Par 2.4 presents "God's
covenant with all the nations." This covenant was there all the time, and
explains the enormous spiritual forces behind international political
dynamics both in ancient and in modern times. This covenant was undiscovered
so far by theologians. That is why the book is paradig shifting. Dr. Lane, a
New Testament scholar who has a name to lose, was surprised and overjoyed
when he heard Pieter teach about this (see back cover and foreword).
2 There are many good books on intercession and spiritual
warfare. ...almost all examples of intercession and spiritual warfare in the
Bible concern nations and cities. However none ot the authers takes time to
wonder what nations and cities are. My book dives into this question, discovers
the awesome creative power and heart of God in his love for nations (vol 1)
and cities (vol 2) and so gives a very fresh and authentic angle to understand
intercession and spiritual warfare for nations and cities. That is why the
book is paradigm shifting."
For those reaching minority groupings...in general and especially ch. 3, the book speaks into the heart and hurt of discriminated peoples.
