RE-ENTRY

C O P I N G W I T H R E - E N T R Y
Neal Pirolo of Emmaus Road International (author of "Serving as Senders") is working on a new book on the re-entry problems that missionaries have when they return home. He wants to approach the subject through stories told by those who have gone through the process. While Neal has access to stories from people who have shared on such problems during his seminars, he wants to cast the net as widely as possible. If you have a re-entry story that you think he might be able to use contact Neal and explore the possibility with him: Neal_Pirolo@eri.org. He'd love to hear from you. From CMD Net?

RE-ENTRY - Making the Transition from Missions to Life at Home – book by Peter Jordan. Going on a short-term outreach, or a long-term outreach for that matter, can be like going into outer space. You leave home fast, and you come down hard! And in between is a totally foreign and completely exhilarating experience. But what happens when you get back home? Will your experience overseas be completely misunderstood by your friends, your local church, and your loved ones? Will you be able to translate the blessings of what you experienced overseas into daily life back home? Will you begin to compare your local church, and the ordinary eight-to-five workday lives of most members, to your exhilarating experience of prayer, evangelism, and close-quarter living with other missionaries and workers? It is important to ask these questions- and more important to answer them! I believe this book is key in helping every person involved in short-term or long-term missions to come face to face with the key issues of 're-entry'. I encourage you to work through these issues, and to commit yourself to redeem everything that God does for you, both in your overseas experience and as you share and apply what you learned back home. Not only is RE-ENTRY a practical and helpful book for every local church and mission agency who sends workers overseas, but it is fun to read. Peter Jordan shares many anecdotes, metaphors and insights into aviation and space travel. I loved reading the book, and I know you will, too! COOL DOWN YOUR REENTRY -- A new practical resource on short-term mission reentry is available from Deeper Roots publications (See http://members.aol.com/HLisech/DeeperRoots). REENTRY GUIDE FOR SHORT-TERM MISSION LEADERS, by Lisa Espineli Chinn, is a compilation and expansion of handouts and notes of the intensive reentry workshops the author has conducted at the last five National Short-Term Missions Conferences and a special Short-Term Mission Leaders Retreat. Lisa Espineli Chinn has been conducting reentry seminars for international students and short-term missions since the mid-80's, and authored _Think Home: A Practical Workbook for Christian International Students Preparing to Return Home_ in 1984. For more information, contact Howard Lisech at: HLisech@aol.com. From Brigada

REENTERING THE REENTRY SUBJECT -- Arlene and Neal are still searching for some real life stories for a new book they want to publish to help educate the Church to their responsibility in reentry issues. They will respect your confidentiality. If you've got a reentry story for them, contact Arlene and/or Neal at Emmaus_Road@eri.org for more details. From Brigada

REENTRY BIBLE STUDY READY FOR REENTRY USE! -- Have you heard about "Fishers of Men"??? I hadn't -- until Donna walked in this past week to show it to me. She's the Vice-Pres. of Missionary Care at our mission org. and she was struck by how =easy= it would be to plug this book into our program. I can't figure out why we've never run across this one before. It's available from Howard Lisech, 2100 Red Gate Rd., Orlando, FL 32818; tel 407-293-8666; email: HLisech@aol.com. Designed for use over a 14-day period, it gently cushions the blow of a hard return home after missionary service -- reentry and debriefing sort of thing. Lots of Bible study, lots of fill-in-the-blank and journaling. Great stuff -- and affordable. $4.50 for the spiral bound book...and they apparently have two versions, one for "Overseas returnees" and one for "stateside returnees." Write Howard for more info. From Brigada. It’s very good!

BRING ON THE REENTRY STORIES! -- Neal Pirolo is writing a book on re-entry and wants to include real stories, although names and details may be changed to assure confidentiality. WANTED -- STILL MORE MISSIONARY REENTRY STORIES -- Neal Pirolo is writing a book on re-entry and wants to include real stories, although names and details may be changed to assure confidentiality. Please contact Emmaus_Road@eri.org and they will give you further details. If you find it too difficult to write about your experience, you may call 619-292-7020 in the USA. They will be happy to talk you through it. They would like to help local churches learn more about the re-entry process. When you write your story, be sure to copy your message to:
brigada-responses@egroups.com. You need not join to send a message to that email list... but this way, others could join that group (by sending a message to brigada-responses-subscribe@egroups.com) and begin reading your stories the moment you send them to Neal, instead of after the book is done! Make sure you label the subject of your message clearly: "still more missionary reentry stories." Thanks! From Brigada

REENTRY BOOK UPDATE -- Neal Pirolo thanks everyone for the stories he has received to date on reentry (see Brigada Today 6/4/99). He has received some very good stories, but could still use more. Please contact Emmaus_Road@eri.org and they will give you further details. Since the book will help local churches learn more about the re-entry process, a bibliography is being developed to be included as a resource. Neal would like to include every book, article, organization, seminar, church, etc. who has to do with re-entry; including names, address, contact persons, etc. If you would like to contribute to this resource, please email the information to Emmaus_Road@eri.org.

STW Mission was a project initiated by a Canadian organization in order to produce a re-entry resource for parents/pastors (what they do to help/hinder the re-entry) of teenage or college short term missionaries. The project proposed to collect previously compiled information on re-entry as well as take phone surveys from short term missionaries (ie: 2 weeks-3 months on the field) at different organizations. The project web page is still located at http://www.expage.com/page/stwmission
